There is a path forward and our values are its markers.

I am working towards certification in the Coaching for Transformation program. This model of transformational coaching addresses cultural humility, trauma and their core principles of wholeness, diversity, resourcefulness, freedom, and possibility.

I offer consulting services to social justice leaders seeking to strengthen their organizations, in particular their internal practices, structures and alignment.

If you have or are about to have a staff union, I have much to share with you, and some challenges to offer you, based on my personal experiences and the work of many colleagues.

A staff union can strengthen and improve our organizations and offer chances to develop even more authentic relationships with our staff members. Although unions have not served all people and all communities well or consistently, there is a healthy path forward and our values are its markers.

About Me

I have been studying coaching and leadership development for many years, exploring and applying different models and approaches within my roles as a leader within non-profit organizations and networks.

My working life has been spent seeking justice and social change, first as a community organizer, and later as a leader in social justice organizations dedicated to creating a more just world and economy for everyone, with a particular concern for those who have been harmed by centuries of white supremacy, misogyny, exclusion and greed. Most recently I served as managing director of Jobs With Justice’s national office in Washington, DC.

Several years ago, I discovered that I needed to do my own inner work and healing. This work has been very hard, but also life-giving. Working with a gifted holistic therapist opened doors for me and I discovered my new passions: life coaching and supporting nonprofit leaders in strengthening their organizations.

As I began to heal old trauma and grief, I suddenly wanted to learn to swim. At the age of 50, I overcame an inherited, lifelong fear of water (my mother was afraid of water), and started taking lessons from a gifted healer and swimming teacher. The analogies offer powerful insights: learning to breathe... learning to crawl...

I had a difficult time learning the front crawl until my swim teacher asked me what I was experiencing. I was worried about getting the next breath. She suggested that I ‘focus on the out breath’. After making that small shift in mindset, I swam all the way across the pool.
